As the need for more environmentally protective materials emerge, corporations and universities invest large amounts of resources into the experimentation and discovery of environmentally friendly materials to be used the world over. A recent discovery by University of Delaware Chemical Engineering Professor Richard Wool and his students have found a way to create a biodegradable plastic by combining the fibers from chicken feathers that have been removed from the quills and combining them with soybean resin.
Currently, this new plastic is only being used by computer companies, because of the new plastics resistance to heat and its increased conductivity. However, in years to come, expect to see this new environmentally friendly plastic make a name for itself in the reusable and recyclable plastic packing and shipping supplies industry.
